OSAWATOMIE — Osawatomie State Hospital and Rainbow Mental Health Center superintendent Steve Ashcraft has suddenly resigned. Parson State Hospital and Training Center superintendent Jerry Rea will be interim superintendent for both Osawatomie State Hospital and the Rainbow facility, Angela De Rocha, Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services spokesperson, told the Kansas Health Institute news service. De Rocha declined to discuss the resignation. However, she told the Kansas Health Institute that she wouldn’t characterize Ashcraft’s resignation as abrupt. Ashcraft had been Osawatomie and Rainbow superintendent for nearly two years. Except for a special six-bed unit, the Rainbow center has been closed for two years. Most of the Rainbow patients were moved to Osawatomie. Last month, the state requested interested parties to submit ideas on reconfiguring rainbow. Eight entities submitted proposals, KHI reported.
