OTTAWA — The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department received a handful of burglary reports this weekend. A 70-year-old Ottawa man reported Friday someone broke into his in-laws’ vacant house in the 1800 block of California Road north of Williamsburg and stole a safe out of the home. The loss was estimated at $2,000. A 70-year-old Rantoul man reported Saturday someone stole a John Deere riding mower out of a shed in the 1700 block of Virginia Lane north of Lane. The mower was located on a trail northeast of the property. There was no damage to the mower otherwise, the sheriff’s office said. However, the 59 Service Station in Richmond was damaged Saturday because of an attempted break-in. The damage estimated at less than $1,000. An Ottawa woman reported a storage unit in the 3700 block of Old Highway 59 north of Ottawa was burglarized. The loss was estimated at more than $6,000. A 61-year-old Ottawa man reported Sunday someone damaged a rental property that he takes care of in the 3800 block of Sand Creek Road northeast of Ottawa during an attempted burglary. A basement window and a sliding glass door were damaged. The damage was estimated at about $300.
