OTTAWA — The Ottawa Veterans Day activities are this weekend and include the annual parade downtown and historical military re-enactments in Forest Park. Activities begin Friday night at 6:30 at Forest Park with guest speaker Ron Kimes, retired National Guard command sergeant major and retired teacher, songs and the opening of the annual Field of Flags. Most events kick into high gear Saturday morning with the parade, which will be the second largest in the state with more than 200 entries, at 10:45 and go from City Park to Forest Park. The parade will pause at about 11:15 for a ceremony at the veterans memorial at Fourth and Main. Saturday afternoon highlights include Civil War and World War II re-enactments and entertainment. A group of medieval warfare re-enactors is new this year, said Harold Mays, one of the organizers.
