OTTAWA — A former Norwegian ambassador will be this year’s speaker for Ottawa University’s Hostetter DeFries Endowed Cultural Event Nov. 20 and 21. Arman Aardal is an OU graduate and he will discuss the struggles, successes and lasting friendships he encountered throughout his journey on the world stage. His first presentation will “Diplomacy – What is it and Who Needs it?” 8 p.m. Nov. 20 in the Fredricksen Chapel. He will speak on “We Can All Make a Difference” at 11 a.m. Nov. 21 also in the chapel. Both speeches are free and open to the public. Aardal’s diplomatic postings were in eastern Africa and the United Nations in New York. Among his specialities were the environment and human settlements. He’s now on the board of a Norwegian youth sports group that supports sports and community service activities in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya.
