KANSAS CITY — A newly-married Kansas City firefighter was shot and killed by an off-duty Kansas City police officer early Sunday morning. Anthony Bruno had just gotten married and was celebrating at his wedding reception in downtown Kansas City on Saturday night when he left the reception. KMBC Channel 9 reported that the off-duty, uniformed police officer responded to an call downtown where a cab driver had been assaulted and the officer went after a suspect. Police told Channel 9 the officer caught up with Bruno in the 1300 block of Baltimore and the pair struggled, and the officer shot Bruno. Both were taken to the hospitals, where Bruno later died and the officer was being treated for a fracture in his face. Police say the shooting is under investigation.
