OTTAWA — Ottawa firefighters received two smoke alarms over the weekend and it had nothing to do with hot turkey. Firefighters were called to an alarm to an apartment complex in the 700 block of South Ash Saturday afternoon. An electrical outlet was smoking and the occupant used a fire extinguisher on it before fire trucks arrived, Fire Chief Jeff Carner said. There was no fire and there was just minor damage to the outlet and the immediate area around the outlet, he said. Firefighters were called Saturday morning when an apartment in the 1600 block of South Osage Drive filled with smoke. Carner said the occupant placed the oven on cleaning cycle and left the apartment. Firefighters vented the smoke.
