COLONY — The cause of this morning’s devastating fire that destroyed a major of downtown Colony in southern Anderson County is under investigation. Investigators from the state fire marshal’s office have been going over the remains of the Colony Diner and Convenience Store, and of Colony Foods to find a cause, Anderson County Sheriff Vernon Valentine said. The fire was discovered early this morning in the Colony Diner and spread to Colony Foods, which is in the same commercial building. The roof collapsed into both businesses. The two businesses were at the heart of the retail sector of the town of 390. Firefighters from rural Anderson and Allen county fire departments and the cities of Garnett and Iola battled the blaze. There were no injuries reported from the fire, Valentine said.
