GARDNER — A 23-year-old Ottawa woman was among three people hospitalized early Friday morning following a two-vehicle crash on I-35 south of 175th Street in Gardner. Wallace Atkins III, 28, Excelsior Springs, Mo., was driving south on I-35 when he lost control of his car, which crossed the median, the Kansas Highway Patrol said. His car was sideways in the north-bound lanes of I-35 when a north-bound SUV driven by Keely Richardson, Ottawa, hit his car in the passenger door, the highway patrol said. Both vehicles came to rest beyond the outside shoulder, in a grassy area. Richardson was taken to Olathe Medical Center for what the highway patrol described as disabling injuries. Atkins and a passenger in his car, John Caswell, 37, Independence, Mo.; were taken to Overland Park Regional Medical Center for disabling injuries. They were all wearing seat belts.
