TOPEKA – Gov. Sam Brownback said he supports a state board of education proposal to fund all-day kindergarten. Numerous studies show that all-day kindergarten is a good investment in helping children be more successful in school, Brownback said. The proposal will cost $16 million. Presently, the state only funds half-day kindergarten. Most school districts offer all-day kindergarten but in many districts, local property taxpayers pick up the tab for the rest of the school day. In some districts, costs of all-day kindergarten are paid by fees charged to parents.
