WESTWOOD HILLS — The Westwood Hills historic district in Johnson County has been added to the National Register of Historic Places. The district comprises the entire city of Westwood Hills. The Kansas Historical Society said the district is an excellent surviving example of the innovative residential design concepts pioneered by developer J.C. Nichols employed in his many successful subdivisions in both Missouri and Kansas. Westwood Hills was the first subdivision Nichols developed in Kansas using these concepts. It was nominated for its local significance in the areas of community planning and architecture.
