OTTAWA — The city of Ottawa has requested a jury trial in its court battle with Franklin County’s insurance company over a lawsuit against the Franklin County 911 emergency dispatch center. The KCAMP, the Kansas County Association of Multi-line Pools, paid nearly $200,000 after a towing company sued the county over how dispatchers assigned towing calls for accidents. The towing company later withdrew the lawsuit. However, KCAMP wants the city to pay $100,000 or half of the legal costs. The city has refused. The lawsuit is one reason the city commission sought to change the agreement on how the city and county share the costs of the 911 center. The city and county agreed to a new pact that stated the county would assume all legal liability for the 911 center. No date has been set for the trial. However, a pretrial conference has been set for Jan. 27 in Franklin County District Court. A trial date is likely to be set during that hearing.
