OTTAWA–The Prairie Paws Animal Shelter may have had its financial problems in recent times, but there’s one thing they can be proud of. In 2013, fewer than 100 animals were put to sleep. That’s compared to 2008, when almost 1000 were euthanized. Prairie Paws Director Jaron Asher says the only reason animals are put to sleep are if they’re in very poor health or due to behavior issues, such as aggression.
