OTTAWA — The Prairie Paws Animal Shelter will be host a volunteer orientation Saturday afternoon from 1 to 2. That’s one of several volunteer opportunities available, Janice Craft, Ottawa Volunteer Center, said. The shelter needs volunteers to perform a wide variety of tasks, including dog walking and cat cuddling. The days and times are flexible to fit any schedule. Volunteer orientation is required for youth ages 17 and under and they must bring a parent or guardian to the orientation. Call 242-2967. Ransom Memorial Hospital needs a volunteer to print newborn photos and assemble the photo package for parents. Other responsibilities include contact with nursing staff in the Family Birth Place where the photos are taken. Basic computer skills are necessary for this position and the hours are flexible. The Willow Domestic Violence Center needs volunteer advocates in Franklin County to help survivors of domestic violence as they deal with the court system, as well as to provide activities for children while their mothers attend the willow’s weekly support group. All volunteer advocates receive extensive training before they begin helping survivors of domestic violence.
