KANSAS CITY — An American Airlines cross-country flight made an emergency landing at Kansas City International Sunday because of a security alert. The jetliner, which was going from San Francisco to New York, was diverted to Kansas City after someone found a flash drive left in a bathroom. Authorities treated it initially as potential bomb threat. “They checked out the aircraft, looked at the device, and deemed it not to be a threat,” KCI spokesman Joe McBride told ABC News. All 227 passengers were also questioned and six and half hours later, they were sent back on their way. “It was unfortunate,” McBride said. But “security is very important and it’s a new normal.” The unscheduled and lengthy interruption had some passengers annoyed, especially when they found the reason for the alert.
