TOPEKA – Gov. Sam Brownback nominated a state senator from central Kansas to the Kansas Corporation Commission. Sen. Jay Emler, R-Lindsborg, succeeded Derek Schmidt as Senate majority leader and served two years in that post until last year, when conservatives took over the senate and purged the remaining moderates. Brownback said Emler has extensive experience in telecommunications and business law. The KCC regulates utilities and energy companies in the state. Emler said he’ll resign his senate seat if his colleagues confirm him.
