OTTAWA — The winners of the student essay contest were honored at Sunday’s Martin Luther King, Jr., celebration at Ottawa Municipal Auditorium. This year’s topic of bullying was a topic of particular interest to the students, some of whom had personal experience, said Richard Jackson, of the Ottawa Black Awareness Committee, which organizes the annual event. Winners were Lincoln second grader Colby Powell, Wellsville third grader Katelyn Hurd, Wellsville fourth grader Kathryn Tthompson, Wellsville fifth grader Jacob Lee, Ottawa Middle School’s Talon Chenault, West Franklin Middle School’s Hunter McMurdy and Katie Rubick, and Wellsville High School’s Ashtyn Rottinghaus.
