LOUISBURG — About 500 giant hay bales caught fire in a pasture near U.S. 69 and 319th Street south of Louisburg Monday. Firefighters spent the afternoon and evening fighting the grass and hay fire and battling high winds that helped fan the blaze. The grass fire was contained but firefighters decided to let the bales burn. Firefighters stayed at the scene Monday night to keep an eye on the bales. Some of the bales continued to burn this morning. The cause of the fire wasn’t known.
