GARNETT — At least 14 deer carcasses were dumped off the side of the Fourth Street bridge onto a frozen Cedar Creek west of Garnett last week. Kansas Wildlife and Parks warden Joshua Dehoux told the Anderson County Review that although it looks as though the animals were killed legally and not poached, the action still is considered littering. The action paints good hunters in a bad light, he said. Hunters often have trouble disposing of deer carcasses after they remove the meat and antlers, he said. However, dumping carcasses in a creek or river is not only illegal but a bad idea, he said. Scavenger animals can’t get at the carcasses, which rot in the water, he said. The area is near a pumping station that provides water to the city of Garnett, but he said the carcasses don’t present a health hazard.
