OTTAWA — A man is in the Franklin County jail after a standoff in Garnett this morning. The arrest of Damon Griffin was in connection with a joint investigation involving several agencies, Franklin County Sheriff Jeff Richards said. Officers obtained a search warrant following a report of domestic violence battery and an aggravated assault at 210 W. 10th Street in Garnett Tuesday night. After officers from the KBI, Anderson County and Garnett, Franklin County and Ottawa, and Coffey County tried to serve the warrant, a man barricaded himself and another person in the house. Richards said Griffin surrendered in the front yard of the home without incident. “There wasn’t any violence,” Richards said. “He gave up after negotiations.” Richards said the investigation and incident shows the close cooperation among neighboring law enforcement agencies. Griffin was booked into the Franklin County jail on suspicion of aggravated assault, domestic battery and criminal possession of a firearm. Richards said there could also be charges in Franklin County later.
