OTTAWA – Ottawa University sent out an alert for the campus for an emergency situation that occurred this afternoon. Here is the message posted on OU’s Facebook page:
“An e2campus alert was released at 2:54 p.m. on the Ottawa University residential campus in Ottawa, Kansas, alerting students to a possible threatening situation. A student was overheard making what he now claims was an offhanded comment that was perceived as threatening by a fellow student. The student reported the comment to administrative personnel per policy.
Ottawa University takes all such comments seriously. Student Affairs administrators and local police interrogated the student and continue to evaluate the situation. As a precautionary measure, the residence hall where the student resides was evacuated. As always, our first priority is the safety of our students, faculty and staff. We are following University crisis protocol to ensure that no one is harmed. No imminent threat is perceived at this time.”
