OTTAWA – A Wellsville man who killed a young motorcyclist will spend another two years in prison. As a result of a plea deal, Roger Shaw was sentenced this morning to 84 months in prison for involuntary manslaughter while driving drunk. Shaw had served four years of a 10-year sentence for the drunk-driving accident that killed Aaron Kichler when he successfully appealed his conviction by a Franklin County jury. The Kansas Supreme Court ordered a new trial, which was scheduled to begin this month. However, late last month, Shaw pleaded no contest to the manslaughter charge. Defense attorney Sue Devoe said that with the time he’s served and time off for good behavior, Shaw could be freed in two years. During this morning’s sentencing hearing, Devoe asked that Shaw not be sent back to prison but instead receive intensive supervised probation because of health issues. However, District Judge Thomas Sachse denied that and ordered Shaw back to prison.
