PITTSBURG — A 49-year-old Crawford County man pleaded guilty Friday to cheating the federal government of more than $4 million by filing false federal tax returns. While Jerold Fisher, Arma, was a registered agent for Fisher Alfalfa Farms, he filed false federal tax returns for both himself and his mother to receive tax refunds from 2006 to 2009, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said. Grissom said that Fisher tested his scheme of false withholding payments in 2006 and as he received tax refunds, he increased the amount of his claims. By 2009, he was claiming withholding payments of more than $3.8 million on income of more than $8 million, he said. Sentencing is May 27. Grissom said both parties have agreed to a sentence of three years in federal prison.
