GARNETT — The Garnett Veterans of Foreign Wars post has nominated Jeff Russell for the VFW’s national teacher of the year award. Russell teaches instrumental music at Anderson County Junior-Senior High School and Garnett Elementary School, and vocal and instrumental music at Greeley Elementary School. The VFW post lauded Russell’s community service including creating and directing the Garnett Community Band and blowing “Taps” for military funerals. He also organizes a musical program for the annual Veterans’ Day events held at Anderson County Junior-Senior High School.
