OSAWATOMIE — Osawatomie city manager don cawby is issuing a correction – of a campaign flyer circulating around town in connection with a city council race.
He says the flyer contains a mistake that repeated a mistake in one of the city’s quarterly reports.
The political flyer says that the city’s debt more than doubled in two years and this new debt includes money to buy and remodel a former insurance office for the police
Department and for the golf course.
He says the flyer’s claim is based on a typo in the city’s september quarterly report. In addition, he says the city was instructed by its independent auditor to report special bond payments to the state in quarterly reports, which started in september
Cawby says the city’s debt hasn’t increased significantly since 2008, when the city did several street and sewer projects.
He says the city’s debt load in the middle of the pack for similarly-sized cities in the region.
