WASHINGTON — Tonight is the deadline for enrolling in the Affordable Care Act. Administration officials said they saw a huge increase of traffic to the website over the weekend, more than two million visitors. A record number of people calling in to the call centers and they expect today, the final day to sign up before the deadline, to be the biggest day yet. So far, the website, subject of some highly-publicized breakdowns, seems to be handling it more or less, although the site shutdown for an hour this afternoon. The goal was to sign up 7 million people and Administration officials say they’re close to the goal. They said those who have signed up and picked a plan but haven’t finished by midnight will get a few extra days of grace period. The Administration was buoyed by a new A new ABC News/Washington Post poll released today that shows for the first time, more people approve of Obamacare than those who disapprove shows a bit of a turnaround in sentiment. “The poll shows support for the health care law advancing from a near-low 40 percent last fall to a new high of 49 percent now,” said Gary Langer, of Langer Associates, which directs polling for ABC News. “Backing for Obamacare has gained ground among young adults, nonwhites, lower-income and less-educated Americans – and perhaps surprisingly among political conservatives. Just 36 percent of conservatives support the law, but that’s up from 17 percent at the time of the botched rollout of the healthcare.gov website in November.”
