COLONY — After an early December fire destroyed two Colony businesses, Colony Community Diner and Convenience Store manager Brenda Dowling made a promise to the community: the diner would reopen within 90 days. It was an ambitious goal and the Anderson County Review reports that Dowling almost made it. After a couple of delays, she got the OK from state inspectors to open her new building in time for spring break. However, Dowling told the Review she probably should have waited another week to deal with problems with the electrical system and the grill. Although some customers have complained about the glitches, most customers are grateful to have the business back. The fire also destroyed the neighboring Colony Foods store. A new building for the grocery store is also under construction.
