OTTAWA — An Ottawa woman was sentenced Monday to two-and-a-half years in federal prison for peddling prescription drugs. Brandi Bivens, 32, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute oxycodone, hydrocodone, methadone and morphine, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said. She admitted she and her mother, Connie Edwards, Ottawa, as well as others, were part of a drug ring that distributed prescription drugs from November 2007 to February 2012. Grissom said that after the Franklin County Drug Enforcement Unit received information that Edwards was selling prescription drugs in Ottawa, they watched Bivens and Edwards picking up prescriptions at pharmacies and made undercover drug buys from them. State prescription drug records showed that over a nearly two-year period, Bivens received obtained 1, 056 morphine tablets, 351 hydrocodone tablets, 432 Oxycodone tablets and 1,520 Oxycontin tablets. Edwards was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison. Other members of the ring who were sentenced include Shirley Price, who received seven years; Tamara Ledom, 18 years; Brittany Edwards, 15 months; and Angela Mitchell, who was sentenced to probation for one year.
