LYNDON — A 29-year-old Carbondale man will stand trial for murder June 23 in Osage County District Court in connection with the decapitation of a Topeka man three years ago. James Paul Harris pleaded not guilty last week to first-degree murder in the death of James Gerety, 49. Harris is accused of cutting off Gerety’s head with a guitar string and keeping his head in a canvas bag for religious rituals. He was charged last fall after part of Gerety’s skull was found in a field.
