GARNETT — Anderson County Hospital’s “Women in Training” program begins Thursday with the goal to help area women to better physical fitness and healthier lifestyles. Women in Training is an eight-week program that offers women of all ages and fitness levels a chance to participate in a self-paced walk/run and cross-training series. Participants will also have the opportunity to talk with medical experts about improving their health and reviewing their baseline health numbers. The hospital notes that less than 5 percent of adults participate in 30 minutes of physical activity each day, and only one in three adults receive the recommended amount of physical activity each week. The program offers two daily session through May 29 at the Santa Fe Depot on the Prairie Spirit Trail in Garnett. Each session will include a 45-minute-long walk/run/cross-train session at each woman’s pace, and a 15-minute talk by a health care professional. The cost to participate in the eight-week program is $35. Free childcare is provided.
