GARNETT — Anderson County’s recent tax sale raised about $117,000. The Anderson County Review reports 58 properties with $373,000 in delinquent taxes were sold. The sale covered properties with unpaid taxes up through 2006. County counselor James Campbell told the Review that recouping 31 percent of the delinquent taxes was higher than he expected and he was pleased with the results. About half of the delinquent taxes was owned for an abandoned nursing home on the west edge of Garnett. The county bought the building, which is next to the county shops and fire station. The county plans to demolish the building. The last sale was nearly 20 years ago, but Campbell said he plans another sale in about a year.
