TOPEKA — Former state senator Pat Apple, Louisburg, has been sworn in as a member of the Kansas Corporation Commission. He was appointed by Gov. Sam Brownback and confirmed by his former senate colleagues to a four-year term. He was in the senate nine years, and was chair of the Senate Utilities Committee. Apple is certified as a master electrician and he and his wife own and operate Apple Electric, which serves commercial and industrial customers in the greater Kansas City area. Before redistricting, Apple’s senate district included most of Franklin County. His district now covers northeastern Miami County and southern Johnson County. Republican Party officials will appoint his successor. The KCC regulates energy companies, utilities and some transportation companies.
