HOUSTON — NASA said there will be a new meteor shower later this month. The new shower, called the Camelopardalids are caused by the dust a comet that whizzed by the earth nearly 200 years ago, NASA meteor watcher Bill Cooke said. Some forecasters have predicted more than 200 meteors per hour, which is more than the spectacular Perseid shower that occurs in August, Cooke said. Or, he said it could be a bust. He said the best likely time to look for the meteors would be between 2 and 4 early in the morning of May 24, which is a Saturday. The meteors will appear to radiate from a point in Camelopardalis, a faint constellation near the North Star, he said. Even if the shower is a dud, he said people who get up early will see a tight formation of the crescent moon and Venus in the eastern sky before dawn.
