TOPEKA — Beginning next Monday, the Museum of the Kansas National Guard will expand its hours for the summer. The museum will be open 10- 4 Monday through Saturday. The museum is at the main entrance to Forbes Field in south Topeka. Admission is free. The museum is also the home of the 35th Infantry Division Museum. It tells the 158-year heritage of Kansas citizen-soldiers. There are 130 interior exhibits from the Civil War to the war in Afghanistan and an 6-acre outside display with 33 pieces of equipment, including four airplanes, five helicopters, three tanks, six howitzers, and a variety of trucks and jeeps. The museum is sponsoring Heartland Military Day, featuring Civil War and World War II re-enactments and exhibits, on June 14. That is free and open to the public.
