TOPEKA — The National Weather Service office in Topeka said there’s a potential for powerful thunderstorms to hit much of the state this afternoon and evening. However, the most severe weather will be north of I-70 and along the Nebraska border and if there’s any storms in Franklin County tonight, they won’t be serious, said Chad Ohmitt, of the weather service. Some storms could develop in central Kansas tonight but those would likely die out before they reach east-central Kansas, he said. However, he said there could be serious storms in this area later in the week.
