OTTAWA — Franklin County commissioners have scheduled a special meeting for 3 p.m. Thursday at the Franklin County Annex to hire an interim county administrator. That will likely be Don Moler, who recently retired as the long-time executive director of the League of Kansas Municipalities. Moler met with commissioners this morning during a series of executive sessions. Although Moler wouldn’t confirm he would become the interim administrator, he said he has had wide experience in dealing with and familiarity with most city and county issues. The league is the association for Kansas cities but served as the original parent of the Kansas Association of Counties. If he’s selected Thursday, Moler would serve as administrator until the commissioners recruit a permanent successor to Lisa Johnson, who is leaving at the end of the month to work for Ottawa University. Commissioners also voted today to post the vacancy for administrator. After examining their options, commissioners also agreed to post a vacancy for a full-time county counselor. Johnson was originally county counselor but was later hired as administrator and combined both jobs. Johnson said it will take at least two to three months to find a new administrator.
