OTTAWA — The Glorious Fourth Independence Day celebration will be 8 a.m. Friday on the west side of the Old Depot Museum, 135 W. Tecumseh. Ottawa’s 150th anniversary is the museum’s 51st anniversary. The event is designed with a nod to Independence Day celebrations of times past, Deborah Barker, Franklin County Historical Society executive director, said. Period music will be provided by the Doolittle Family Band. FCHS archivist Susan Geiss will read the Declaration of Independence with historical commentary by former FCHS president Blaine Finch, and an oration by Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area executive director Frederick Conboy. The event is free. Also Friday is the Ottawa Jaycee’s annual fireworks display at Forest Park. The Jaycees will shoot off about $4,500 worth of fireworks and will include a special display to mark the city’s 150th, said Rex Carswell. The Ottawa City Band will perform at 8 p.m. at Forest Park before the fireworks.
