TOPEKA — Two Topeka men are in jail in connection with the murder of a Topeka police officer Sunday afternoon. Cpl. Jason Harwood was killed after he pulled over a car for a routine traffic stop in eastern Topeka. A 15-year veteran of the police department, Harwood was pronounced dead at Stormont Bail Hospital in Topeka at about 5 p.m., WIBW Radio reported. A suspect in the shooting, Ross Lane, gave himself up in Lawrence later without incident. He is being held in the Shawnee County jail without bond. A second man, Randy Ridens, Jr., 30, was arrested overnight near Linwood in connection with the shooting. He’s being held in the Shawnee County jail on $1 million bond.
