OTTAWA — The potential for tornadoes, hail up to two inches in diameter and winds up to 70 miles an hour exists later today for north and eastern Kansas, the National Weather Service office in Topeka said. The greatest risk for severe storms is in the area north of I-70, the weather service said. Severe weather would flare up in north-central Kansas this afternoon and spread to other parts of the state as the evening continues. The Franklin County area could see severe storms mainly after 5, with high winds the most likely result, although a slight chance of tornadoes and large hail also exists, the weather service said.
