LAWRENCE — A poet fascinated with an old soap opera about vampires and werewolves will read his poems about alien abductions, vampires and Kennedy-assassination conspiracy theories at Kansas University. Tony Trigilio, who is a professor of creative writing at Columbia College of Chicago, will read some of his poetry at 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon at the English Room of the Kansas Union. He’ll also take questions and sign copies of his book. The reading is free and open to the public. For his latest writing project, Trigilio is watching all 1,225 episodes of the 1960s horror soap opera “Dark Shadows.” He calls it a gigantic experiment in poetry and autobiography. His first writing from the project, “The Complete Dark Shadows (Of My Childhood), Book 1,” was recently released. He has also done a book about the Buddhist influences of Beat poet Alan Ginsberg.
