OTTAWA — The cause of a fire that heavily damaged one house in the 700 block of North Mulberry Street last week and caused light damage to a neighboring house is undetermined, said Ottawa Fire Chief Jeff Carner. A house at 725 N. Mulberry was heavily involved in flames and was given a big boost by heavy wind. The wind spread the fire to the exterior of a house to the south at 721 N. Mulberry. Although the woman living at 725 N. Mulberry told Ottawa police she believed someone set the fire deliberately, Carner said fire investigators couldn’t find clear evidence that the fire was deliberately set. The fire causes an estimated $66,000 in damage to 725 N. Mulberry. The other house had approximately $1,000 in damage.
