GARNETT — Anderson County USD 365 has cancelled school for today because of near-blizzard conditions in parts of the Garnett area. The combination of heavy snow and high winds are causing near-whiteout conditions in some isolated areas in east-central and southern Kansas this morning, said Scott Whitmore, National Weather Service forecaster at Topeka. Despite the unexpectedly heavy snow and the wide swath across most of the southern and western part of the state, he said the snow should end as quickly as it came and in some cases were already starting to slow.
