OTTAWA — A 31-year-old Lawrence man was taken to Ransom Memorial Hospital Thursday afternoon after a high-speed pursuit that started in Douglas County ended up in a farm field near the intersection of Stafford and Kentucky roads northwest of Ottawa. Sean Shehan was driving his motorcycle was going west on Stafford Road and left the road while trying to make a curve, the Kansas Highway Patrol said. His motorcycle went into a ditch and went airborne, throwing Shehan. Franklin county sheriff Jeff Richards said his deputies joined the chase when Shehan crossed the county line. During the chase in Franklin County, Shehan reached speeds exceeding 140 miles an hour in the rain, he said. “It was a situation where he needed to be stopped,” Richards said. “… It could have ended a lot worse.” Shehan was wearing a helmet when he was pitched from the motorcycle.
