VINLAND — A UTV accident near Vinland killed a woman late Saturday night and injured her husband. Daniel Vantuyl, 40, and his 35-year-old wife Lori Vantuyl, 35, were traveling in an Arctic Cat 4-seat UTV in the 900 block of E 1587 Road in front of their home when the accident occurred, Douglas County Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Lewis said. Investigators believe Daniel Vantuyl was driving the UTV when he lost control, Lewis said. It crashed after it rolled over. A Life Star helicopter was called to take Lori Vantuyl to a Kansas City hospital but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The cause of the accident is being investigated. Lewis said the accident is the second fatality this year involving a crash of a utility or all-terrain vehicle on county roads.
