OTTAWA — Work on the new county law enforcement center is nearly done. The county has converted the old Neosho County Community College building at Second and Beech into headquarters for the sheriff’s department and the county attorney. The Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce will have a ribbon-cutting for the new facility at 8 a.m. Friday. That will be followed by open houses 8-11 a.m. and 3-7 p.m. Because of security rules, the open houses will be the only time most people will get to see the inside of the new center, Sheriff Jeff Richards said. The new center offers more space and will be more functional, separating members of the public and scofflaws who rub elbows in the small lobby of the present sheriff’s office on the third floor of the jail, he said.
