OTTAWA — The deadline to return mail ballots on the city’s sales tax proposal is noon today. If you want your ballot to count, Franklin County Clerk Janet Paddock said you’ll have to bring it to her office this morning. She said the turnout wasn’t as good as she hoped. As of Monday afternoon, 2,700 ballots had been returned, not quite half of the 7,200 ballots originally mailed by her office to Ottawa city voters. “Not looking like we’ll make that 50-percent mark but still a better than normal turnout,” she said. The proposal would extend the city’s half-cent sales tax and add another half-cent for economic development purposes. The ballots will be counted this afternoon, she said.
