OTTAWA — The Ottawa Planning and Codes Administration Department has a new name. The department is called now the Community Development Department, director Wynndee Lee said. “As the department has become so involved in the bicycle/pedestrian improvements, various grants, the Healthy Community Initiatives and economic development projects, we believe the new title more clearly reflects our duties and responsibilities,” Lee said. The discussion on the name change began internally months ago and included researching other cities’ department names, she said. “Though others had a variety of names, the common one with similar duties was Community Development,” Lee said. The change denotes the partnership model the city has been striving for and not just code enforcement, city manager Richard Nienstedt said.
