OTTAWA — During Monday’s Franklin County Commission reorganization meeting, commissioners elected the sole Democrat on the commission, Rick Howard of Williamsburg, as the chairman for this year.  The newest commissioner, Randall Renoud,  Wellsville Republican, was named the vice chair.  On a 4-1 vote, commissioners decided to maintain the same schedule of regular meetings on Wednesday mornings with study sessions on two Monday mornings each month.  Commissioner Steve Harris sought to change the times when county meetings are held to the evenings, saying the time change would be more convenient for the public to attend.  However, Colt Waymire was skeptical.  He noted that when his grandfather, Don Waymire, was on the county commission, the commission decided to hold night meetings.  However, no one showed up and it was difficult to get vendors and other professionals to attend the night meetings, he said.  In recent months, some of the biggest audiences occurred during the morning meetings, Howard.  “That tells me if it’s important enough to them, they’ll show up,” Howard said.
