OTTAWA — On Monday, the Kansas Dept. of Transportation saids it expects to begin a project to replace the bridge over the Marais des Cygnes River on K-68 between Pomona and Ottawa. The new bridge will be built on an offset highway alignment south of the existing bridge. Two-way traffic will continue to use the existing bridge on the current highway alignment, with the speed limit reduced to 55 miles per hour through the work zone. KDOT awarded a contract of $3.7 million to A.M. Cohron and Son, Atlantic, Iowa. The project is expected to be finished by the end of the year, weather permitting.
