OTTAWA — The former Osage County sheriff was killed when his motorcycle collided with a pickup west of Ottawa Sunday night. David Cain, 59, Lyndon, was pronounced dead at the crash scene near K-68 and Kentucky Road, Franklin County Sheriff Jeff Richards said. Cain was driving his Harley Davidson west in the 2100 block of K-68 behind some vehicles when he pulled into the east-bound lane to pass them shortly before 8 p.m., Richards said. However, at the same time, a pickup, driven by a 16-year-old Ottawa girl, which was two vehicles ahead of Cain, had slowed to make a left turn into a field service road. Cain ran into the side of the pickup, Richards said. A woman riding the motorcycle was injured and was hospitalized. The driver of the pickup and a passenger weren’t injured. K-68 was closed for about four hours while the crash scene was being investigated. The Franklin County crash team continues to work on the crash, he said.
