OTTAWA — Shawn Dillon is the new assistant Ottawa fire chief.  Dillon began his service with the Ottawa Fire Department in February 2006 as a firefighter and emergency medical technician.  He was promoted to driver/operator in april 2008, lieutenant in October 2008 and captain in July 2014.  “Assistant Fire Chief Dillon has been a significant part of the Ottawa Fire Department since becoming a lieutenant in 2008,” Fire Chief Tim Matthias said. “He has good leadership skills and is able to make adjustments in the field for the betterment of the firefighters. He has a very strong work ethic and is a great asset to the department.”  Before joining the department, Dillon worked one year with the Miami County Sheriff’s office and four years with the Concordia police and fire departments.  He has a bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership from Fort Hays State University.  Since 1999, he has served in the Kansas Army National Guard with Battery B, 2-130th Field Artillery in Paola. His current rank is sergeant first class.
